2週間ほど一人で日本に一時帰国しました。一番の目的は昨年亡くなった母方の祖父の一周忌に出席するためです。一周忌は祖父の地元のお寺で行われました。このお寺の敷地内に、祖父母が眠るお墓があります。
I went back to Japan on holiday for 2 weeks by myself. The main purpose was to attend a ceremony of my grandfather’s one year death anniversary. It was held at a temple near his house. There is a comb both my grandfather and grandmother are sleeping in the back of the temple.

祖母は2005年に82歳で他界しました。祖父は89歳でした。祖父、祖母共に晩年は痴呆症が悪化し、母、叔母、叔父の3人が協力をして定期的に介護に行っていました。祖父は多趣味で、旅行、英会話、尺八、社交ダンスなど、とても行動力のある人でした。街で外人を見かけると吸い寄せられるように近づいていき、延々とカタコト英語でおしゃべりをしてしまうというこれまた変わったジイさんでもありました。祖母は几帳面で、いつ遊びに行っても家にはチリ一つ落ちておらず、キッチンには水滴すら残っていないという徹底振りでした。そしてお小遣いをこっそりくれたのもいつも祖母でした（笑）。
二人とも天国で第2の人生を楽しんでいることでしょう。
My grandmother passed away at the age of 82 in 2005. My grandfather was 89 years old. Both were suffering dementia at their late years , and my mother, my aunt and my uncle were regularly visiting them in turn. My grandfather was very active person with plenty hobbies – traveling, learning English, social dancing, Shakuhati (Japanese flute) etc. Whenever he spotted foreigner in a town he approached them as if he was being dragging to them, and chatted with broken English for long long time. He was a little bit unique old grandpa. My grandmother was extremely hygienic and tidy person. There was not even small dust in their house and no water dripping in the kitchen. She was the one who always give me (grandchildren) a petty cache secretly. lol
