Holiday in South Africa 1
今年はとってもよく働きました。働きすぎて有給休暇をほとんど取っておらず、12月初旬になって余っている休暇を早めに消化するようにと総務から連絡が入りました。その休暇数は9日。仕
事病はバイロンにも蔓延しており、バイロンが消化しなければならない休暇数はなんと14日。2007年、2008年と夏のなかったイギリス、二人とも太陽が恋しくてたまりませんでした。ということで急遽南ア行きを決定！12月16日に残り少なくなっていた航空券をやっとの思いで予約し、クリスマス直後の27日に出発しました。
I worked too hard this year even to forget to take enough leaves, therefore At the beginning of December I was warned by admin staff to use up my holiday – 9 days. Byron was also workaholic with 14days leave left. As we had almost no Summer in 2007 and 2008, we were missing the Sun. So……. all of sudden we decided to go to South Africa! I managed to book flight tickets on 16th December and flew on 27th, just after Xmas.
あまりにも急に決定したため、ヨハネスブルグとクルーガーナショナルパークの中間辺りに住んでいたバイロンのご両親が、丁度私たちがイギリスに戻る2日前にダーバンに引っ越してくるという生憎のタイミングでした。そのため、2週間の滞在先はバイロンのお姉さん（Bryan＆Shelley)家族宅です。ところが驚いたことに、Shelley宅に到着すると、まだダーバンに引っ越して来ていない筈のバイロンのお母さんもいるではないですか！どうやら待ちきれなくなり、引越しの荷造りは後回しにして一足早く数日間だけダーバンに来てくれたとのことです。
As our decision was to sudden, Byron’s parents who didn’t expect us to come over were in the process of moving from a farm situated between Johannesburg and Kruger National Park to Durban. They were plan to move to Durban 2 days before our final day in SA, but Byron’s sister’s family kindly provided us a roof for 2 weeks.
However, when we arrived Shelley’s house, astonishingly there was Byron’s mother (Sue) at Shelley’s place who was supposed to be in a farm packing! She seemed to be very excited about seeing us and not to be able to wait till later, so she left all the packings to her husband (Rob) and came down to see us for a few days 
夕方には、空港まで迎えに来てくれたバイロンの弟さん（Bradley）と奥さん（Kerry)とベイビー（James）、そしてダーバン市内に住むバイロンの一番下の弟さん（Justin）とそのお友達も集まり、Shelley宅でブライ（BBQ）を楽しみました。JamesはShelley宅のプールで泳いで（浮かんで）いました。バイロンも甥っ子（Adam）と姪っ子（Skye）に囲まれて嬉しそうです。
In the evening Byron’s brother (Bradley) + his wife Kerry + baby James and youngest brother Justin came over and we had Braai (BBQ). James was floating in a pool. Byron seemed to be very happy with Adam and Skye.
そして次の日はShelley一家とともにRayとRayの恋人Sheilaに会いに行きました。丁度海辺の友人宅でホリデーを楽しんでいるとのこと。このホリデーホームの持ち主はマルチミリオネアだそうで、屋敷内には映画館兼コンピュータールーム、ワインセラー、８ベッドルームなどがあり、ダーバンで2台しかないというフェラーリを所有していました。決して裕福な家庭に育ったわけではないらしいのですが、がむしゃらに働いたとのことです。こんなお屋敷はテレビでしか見かったので、どさくさに紛れて海を眺められるプールで泳いじゃいました。
The next day we surprised Ray and her partner Sheila who were spending holiday at their friends’ house by the beach. This holiday house was built and owned by a multi-millionaire. There were a cinema / computer game room, a wine seller, ８ on-suite double bedrooms in the house , and he also owns Ferrari which exist only 2 of them in Durban. He said he wasn’t in part of rich family at all but he worked extremely hard to gain this wealth. I have never seen such gorgeous house… I didn’t miss the opportunity to swim in this ocean view pool!
