Glucose Tolerance Test
今妊娠28週目です。
I’m now 28weeks pregnant.
今日は朝から病院へ行ってきました。目的は経口ブドウ糖負荷試験。要するに糖尿病のかどうかの検査です。これは、インシュリンが急激に増加し始める妊娠28週目に行われる検査で、正しい結果を出すために遅くても30週目以内に行われなければならないようです。この検査は全員行うわけではありませんが、私の父方の親戚に糖尿病の方が数名いるので、検査を受けるように薦められました。親戚に糖尿病にかかっている人がいない場合でも、下記に当てはまる場合は検査を薦められるようです。私はオリエンタル系なので、親戚に糖尿病患者がいなくても薦められたのかな。
Today I went to Kingston hospital to have Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) for diabetes. Generally the test will be arranged to take place at 28 weeks gestation when demand for insulin begins to increase rapidly. It seems inappropriate to have a GTT any later than 30 weeks gestation as GTTs performed after this time do not accurately reflect a diagnosis of diabetes. I was recommended to take it as some of my father side of relatives is/was suffering from diabetes. Even if you don’t have any relatives who have diabetes, you will be advised to have a GTT if you belongs one of following groups. I am an oriental origin, so I would have been advised to have a GTT anyway…
- 太り気味（BMI > ３０） - Overweight (BMI > 30)
- アフリカ系、アフリカ-カリビアン系、アジア系、オリエンタル系 – African, Africa-Caribean, Asian or oriental origin
- 前回4.5kg以上の大きな赤ちゃんを産んだ – Previous large baby greater than 4.5kg
- 両親、兄弟が糖尿病の場合 – First degree relative with type 2 diabetes
- 前回羊水過多症 – Previous polyhydramnious
前日の夜中から水以外の飲食は禁止されていました。病院に着いて30分ほど待たされた後、まずは血液検査。3本ほど抜かれたのでちょっと朦朧。そして甘い飲み物を提供されると聞いていたのですが、
どうやらこれはエナジードリンク。これを飲み干して、2時間後に血液検査のため戻って来るように言われました。このエナジードリンクは炭酸が入っていたことと、こんな寒い日に冷たい飲み物をそんなに早く飲めるわけがなく、飲み干すのに20分はかかってしまいました。この2時間の間も水以外の飲食は禁止でした。
I was forbbitten to have nothing to eat or drink rather than water from midnight the night before. 30 min after I arrived hospital, I had my blood taken (3 test tubes!). Then I was provided a bottle of sugary drink – this was an energy drink. I was told to drink it up and come back for another blood test in 2 hours time. It was fuzzy cold drink so it took 20 min or so to drink it up for me on such cold day…. I was again not allowed to have anything to eat and drink within this 2 hours.
2時間後病院に戻り、再度血液検査。今回は1本でした。この時既に11時半を過ぎていましたがエナジードリンクは糖分を多く含んでいたためか空腹感はありませんでした。今日の検査はこれで終わりです。検査結果がいつ届くのか聞くのをすっかり忘れてしまいました。明日ミッドワイフとの面会があるので聞いてみよっと。
After 2 hours I went back to the hospital. I had a second blood taken (this time only 1 test tube). Although it was around half past 11 am, as it contained a lot of suger in the energy drink I didn’t feel hungry at that time. Finally I was released from hospital, but completely forgot to ask when I would get the result. I will ask midwife tomorrow at 3rd meeting.
