New car
10月のことになりますが、車を買い換えました。今まで乗っていたFord KAは、よく走ってくれるし保険も安いし小回りもきくしと、とても重宝していたのですが、3ドアの中でも非常に車体が小さいので、チャイルドシートの出し入れをするのには非常にやっかいだし、ベビーカーが入るスペースもない・・・・、それに2002年以前に製造された車にはチャイルドシートを取り付けるISO-FIXが備わっていないということで、突如2002年以降に製造された５ドアの車を探し始めたわけです。予定外の出費だけど仕方がない・・・・。せっかく買い換えるなら長持ちして壊れにくい車がいいだろう・・・。そうなると、日本車かドイツ車！Byronがお気に入りの車はVWの Golf。私が目を付けたのはHondaのJazz（日本ではHonda Fittとして売られています）。早速インターネットで調べたところ、Jazzの方がパワーに劣る分、安い。ということで、Jazz購入です。あ、もちろん中古です。
It was last month when we upgraded our car. Our previous car, Ford KA, was very handy, the insurance was cheap and very comfortable to drive, however, it was tiny tiny 3 door car so it would be tough to take a child seat and a baby in and out and not much space to put a pram in the boot…. Furthermore there is no ISO-FIX standard equipped to cars which manufactured before 2002. So we all of sudden decided to upgrade to something bigger with 5 doors manufactured after 2002. We wanted to purchase a reliable long lasting car, which means Japanese or German cars! Byron loved VW Golf, but I found Honda Jazz (It is known as Fitt in Japan). When I checked the price on the Internet, Jazz was slightly cheaper due to less power than Golf. So… we purchased Honda Jazz! By the way it is of course a second hand car 
インターネットで探してた際に見つけたこの車、自宅から1時間15分という距離にあったのですが、正規ホンダディーラーのフルサービスヒストリーもあるし、写真で見た限りではキレイだし、走行数も48000マイルしかないというので、早速見に行ってみたのです。売り手はディーラーではなく一般人で、定年退職したのでこの車は必要なくなったとのことです。試乗したところ、乗り心地はグー。車内もとっても広く、エンジン音も静か。目立った傷跡なども全くなく、これは買いでしょ～！ということでお値段交渉。Byronが頑張って、目標値までは行きませんでしたが、それでもディスカウントしてもらい、持っていった現金で即払い。その後は売り手の奥さんも混じって、Sussex州の素晴らしい景色が見えるダイニングルームでティータイムです。10ヶ月になるお孫さんの話や旅行の話などで盛り上がりました。
When I was looking for a something good deal, I found this one in Kent which was 1h15min drive from our place. It’s got a full service history from proper Honda dealer and mileage was just 48000 miles. Without any second thought we went to have a look at the car. The seller was not a dealer but a private seller who just retired. He let us drive by ourselves freely. The car was spacious and very quiet, and no scratches or anything either. This would be a good buy! Although we couldn’t put the price down to what we were initially planning to spend, Byron did a good negotiation and got fairy good discount. We instantly paid with cache, then had a nice chat with him and his wife over coffee at their stunning dining room overlooking beautiful Sussex scenery. They told us that they had a 10 month old ground daughter, and also we had chat about our holidays etc etc.
いい買い物をしたな～～と満足で帰ってきたわけですが、自宅に到着してとんでもないことに気づきました。。。。。。なんと！！！！！！！！ドアの鍵がドライバー席の外から閉められない・・・・・・・・・・・・。えぇぇぇぇ～っ！！！？？？？そんなことがあってなるものか？！試乗した時はエンジンや走行具合ばかりに気を取られ、鍵の開け閉めなんてチェックしませんでした。幸いオートロックで、車内からは全てロックが可能で、外からでも助手席とトランクからロックは機能します。よく見てみると運転席のドアの鍵穴が壊れているような感じです。
We had good shopping, we truly thought…… until we got home………… OMG! We cannot lock the car from outside of the driver seat!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! Could it be true???? When we did a test driving we were so concentrating on checking the engine or noise, and didn’t check if it would lock properly from outside. Fortunatelly it has got a central locking system so I can lock from inside, outside of passenger sheet and boot. It seems like a barrell of the driver door is broken.
これは早速売り手に伝えるべき！Byronが電話して事情を話したところ、
「そんなこと気づかなかったよ。いつも助手席から出入りしていたから。」って！！！！！！！！！！！
おい！そんなわけないでしょ～が！！！正直に最初に言ってくれるか、電話をした時に落ち度を認めてくれればそれでよかったんです。でもそんな見え見えな言い訳されると、どうやって人を信じていいのか分からなくなります。とても良い人たちに見えただけに、ショック～～～～～・・・・・。落ち込みました。でも中古の車を買う限り、何かしら問題があるだろうことは承知の上だったし、エンジンやタイヤに大きな問題がないだけまだいいのかな・・・と自分を慰めました。いつか正規ディーラーで、新車が買える日が来ることを祈るばかりです。（Byron、頑張って働いて！）
Furious Byron immediately phoned the seller, but he said ‘I didn’t realise it. I always used a passenger door to in and out’. LIAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It would have been fine if he had told us in the beginning or he had admit his fault on the phone, but he said he didn’t know the broken door – such a fundamental basic problem. I lost trust…….. I completely lost trust on people who even looked very nice……. I was so shocked…. But as long as we buy a second hand car, we have to accept that there could be an issue here and there. Someday there might be a day that we could buy a brand new car (Byron, keep working hard!!)
