私の体が自由に動けるうちに揃える必要のある赤ちゃん用品は揃えておくことにしました。揃えるにあたり決めていたことは、必要最小限に絞り無駄な物は買わないということでした。といっても実際は何が最小限かも検討が付かないものです。とりあえず揃えた物は下記の通り（ほとんどを10月中までに揃えておきました）。参考にしたWebサイトやお店は：
While I could still move around, we have prepared as much baby goodies as possible. What we made sure was that we should not buy too much unnecessarily. Having said so, we had no idea what would be ‘minimum’. By the end of October we have prepared almost everything listed below by refereeing following websites and shops.

• Mothercare : 支店があちこちにあるので買い物に行きやすいです。決して安くはないです。
• Kiddicare ：Mothercareと比べると安いです。ただ本店が北部にあるだけなので配達をしてもらう必要があります。
• Ebay ：中古品を探したい場合は最適のオンラインオークションサイトです。
• Tesco：大型スーパーマーケット。安売りしている時を狙うとかなりのお買い得。
• Primark：激安衣類店。タオル、下着、ベビー用品などはここがお勧め。

重要視したことは、リクライニングが平らになる、軽くて持ち運びがしやすい、赤ちゃんが小さいうちはベビーカーを押している人と対面式になることでした。実際にお店に行って色々と見てみましたが、どれもこれも大きくて重い！唯一ヒットしたのがMaclarenのXLRトラベルシステム。丁度Ebayで、雑誌用のレビューに使用しただけで、実際に誰も座っていないし全てタグ付きが売り出されていました。ベビーカー（フットマフ付き）、チャイルドシート、キャリーコット、そしてISO-FIXカーベースがセットで安く売られていたので、これに決めました。このISO-FIXカーシートを車の後部座席に装着させると、チャイルドシートがワンクリックで簡単に取り外し出来ます。そしてベビーカーのリクライニングを平らにするとチャイルドシートやキャリーコットを装着することも可能です。安いと言っても当初予定していたよりもフンパツしましたが、これはGood Buy！ちなみにキャリーコットにはクッションのような布が付いていますが、ちょっと硬そうだったのでKiddicareでマットレスを注文しました。
We wanted the one which seat goes flat, light weight and a baby can face a parent who is pushing the buggy. When we had look aroundsome prams/buggies at shops, most of them were huge and heavy for me! Only Maclaren XLR travel system was the one we thought we could use. Luckily we found one on Ebay which was not a bland new but not really used – it was only used for a magazine review so no one has sat on it and each items still got a tag on it.  It included a buggy with a foot muff, a car seat, a carry cot and an ISO-Fix car base. As it was much cheaper than an original price, we decided to purchase them. If you fit the ISO-FIX car base into a car, you can attach and detach a car seat with one click. Also if you make a buggy seat flat, you can put a car seat or a carry cot there. Although it was much expensive than what  I was planning to spend on a buggy, I must admit it was a really good buy! By the way I purchased a mattress for the carry cot as the surface seems a bit hard.

日本の姉から送ってもらった4wayタイプのものです。赤ちゃんを寝かせることが出来るこのタイプはイギリスには売っていませんでした。友人と姉が使っているメーカー（ニンナナンナ）が同じだったので、迷わずこれに決めました。家事をする時などに両手が自由に使えるので便利そうです。最初は赤ちゃんとのスキンシップを大切にしたいので、出かける際もこれが重宝しそうです。花柄模様などもあったのですが、バイロンも使えるように黒色にしました。
My sister sent it over for me. This is a 4 way type so a baby can lie flat. I couldn’t find this type in the UK. Both my sister and my friend use the same brand called Ninna nanna, so I asked my sister to send one without looking anything else. While doing house work it will be useful as my both hands will be free. Also a skin ship will be important, so I would like to use it when going out while a baby is still small. I chose a black colour so that Byron can use it too.

昨年男の子を出産した知り合いが、トイザラスの、Cribというベビーベッドよりも小さいタイプのものを譲ってくれました。本来であればロッキングするらしいのですがその部分は壊れているとのことです。特にロッキング機能は必要ないだろうし、狭い我が家にはこれで大満足です。マットレスとシーツはKiddicareで新しいものを注文しました。ブランケットは姉が送ってくれたものや同僚からのプレゼントに加え、綿タイプとフリースタイプのブランケットを何枚か用意しました。あと、スリーピングバックと呼ばれる赤ちゃんをすっぽり入れて寝かせられるタイプのものを買いました。これはPrimarkで８ポンドでした。
One of our friend who has got 1 year old boy gave us a crib. A crib is bigger than a mosses basket and smaller than a cot. A rocking part is broken but we won’t use the function anyway, so this is the perfect baby bed for our small flat. I ordered a new mattress and sheets from Kiddicare. As for blankets, I have got some from my sister and my colleagues as well as I purchased a few made with cotton and fleece at Tesco. I also purchased a sleeping bag (this was 8 pounds at Primark).

昨年女の子を出産した同僚が、どっさり譲ってくれました。本当に有難い！あとは友人から頂いたものなどもあります。どの程度洋服が必要になるか分からないのですが、足りなくなったらその時点で買い足せばいいかなと思っています。それに最初の数ヶ月はどんどん大きくなるだろうから買いすぎてももったいない。ただ、思い出として一生取っておくために、産まれてから一番最初に着せる分と病院から家に帰ってくる時に着せる分の数着だけはByronと選んで買いました（ピンクです・・）。
My colleague who gave a birth to a baby girl last year gave me a lot of new born clothes. I am not sure how much we would need but we can buy some more later as we need. A baby will grow out so quickly so we don’t want to buy too much. However, we purchased a few new clothes purposely – one will be the one when our baby is going to wear the first time in her life and the one when she is coming back home from hospital. We are planning to keep them forever

おむつ、お尻拭き、コットンは安売りしている時にTescoで買いました。おむつはパンパースなどの有名ブランドのもありましたが、とりあえずは一番安いTescoの商品からスタートです。このお尻拭きは80枚入りが5パックで4ポンド（700円程度）でした。安い～。
Nappies, wipes and cotton wools are from Tesco. There are famous brand such as Pumpers, but Tesco product would be fine to start with. These wipes were only 4 pounds for 5 packs which contain 80 wipes each. Cheap!

爪きり、デジタル体温計はMothercareで買いました。爪切りは初日から必要になったりするそうです。
A nail clipper and a digital thermometer are from Mothercare. A nail clipper seems to be useful from day 1.

ガーゼは柔らかい質の良いものを日本から送ってもらいました。イギリスのはMuslin Squaresと呼ばれるもので異様に大きくがさがさしていて使いずらそうです。一応Tescoで買ってしまったのですが実際これを使うかは分かりません。
I asked my sister and mother to send over some soft and good quality ones. You can buy one called Musline Squares in the UK, but they are so huge and the quality seems very rough. I accidentally bought some at Tesco, but I don’t know if I will use them.

温度計を友人から頂きました。慣れてくれば温度計など気にしなくても快適な気温というものが分かるようになるのだそうですが、今のフラットはほとんどの部屋が北向きで隙間風なども入りやすいので、念のため購入しようと思っていたところでした。この温度計は気温が16度以下だと青、16度から20度だと黄色、20度以上だと赤に色が変わる優れものです。ガジット好きなByronがどうしても欲しかった一品です。
One of my friend gave us a thermometer too to maintain room temperature being suitable for a baby. After getting used to it you seem to be able to understand what is the best temperature without looking at a thermometer, but most of our rooms are facing north and tend to get draft from windows, so we were about to purchase one just in case. This is called Gro Egg, which color will change depending on the warms. Blue – below 16 degrees, yellow – between 16 and 20 degrees and red – above 20 degrees.  This is the one Byron, who loves gudgets, really wanted to get.

同僚からプレゼントしていただきました。赤ちゃん用のミニバスタブも売っていますが、狭い我が家にはそれを置いておく場所がありません。そのため、折りたたみ式で使わない時はたたんでお風呂場の隅に置いておけるタイプのものです。最初のうちはそんなに頻繁にお風呂に入れる必要もないそうですし、シンクなどで洗うのが簡単のようですが、しばらくしてから重宝しそうな一品です。また、赤ちゃん用の石鹸やシャンプーなどは買っていません。母親学級の際に、最初のうちはお湯で洗うだけで十分だし、石鹸などを使うと肌が荒れる場合があると聞いていたからです。
I was presented it from my colleagues. You can find a small bath tab at shop, but there is no space in our bathroom to store it. This one is a folding type so that I can fold it when it is not used. In the beginning a baby doesn’t seem to have bath everyday and it seems easier to wash in a sink, but later this bathing kit will be very useful. By the way I didn’t buy any soap or shampoo as I was told at an antenatal class not to use them at an initial stage.
