Japanese food from Japan
先日日本の母から小包が届きました。中身は恒例の日本食です！！私の好物を知っている母は、年に数回こうして食べ物を送ってくれます。いつも「中身よりも送料の方が高いわ・・」なんて言っていますが、それでも誕生日やクリスマス前になると「何か欲しい物はあるかしら～？」と聞いてきてくれます。
A few days ago I received a parcel from my mother. Inside was a full of Japanese food!! She send me over those food a few times a year. Although she always says ‘Postage was more expensive than actual content…’, she always asks me ‘It’s a time to send a parcel to you 
What do you want??’ on my birthday and Christmas season.
イギリスでも日本食材店がありますし、最近では地元の大型スーパーなどでオリエンタル系（日本食、中華）の材料なども売り出すようになっています。でも日本食材店では３倍位の値段と高いですし、スーパーの食材は正直あまり買ったことがありません。なのでこうして直に日本から送ってもらえると、とっても有難いのです！
There are Japanese grocery shops in London and also oriental food (Japanese and Chinese) are becoming more and more popular at local super market. But those food at Japanese grocery shops cost me 3 times more expensive than its original price, and I have not really tried to buy oriental food at local super markets. So these parcel from my mother are very very special!
母は旅行が趣味で、年に数回は叔母と一緒に海外へ遊びに行きます。そしてヨーロッパに旅行に来るたびに旅先で落ち合うのですが、その際にスーツケースいっぱいの食べ物を持ってきてくれます。今年は５月にクロアチアで落ち合う予定だったのですが、妊娠発覚、そして豚インフルエンザの心配もあり、私とByronは敢え無くキャンセルしました。そのため、買い置きしておいた日本食を今回こうして送ってくれたようです。
My mother loves traveling and goes abroad on holiday a few times a year with her sister. Whenever they come to Europe, Byron and myself go over to meet them up, and get plenty Japanese food from them 
We were planning to meet them up at Croatia this May, but with great regret we had to cancel the holiday due to my pregnancy as well as the fear of swine flu. Therefore she seems to have sent over food which were meant to be given in Croatia.
ちなみに、イギリスでは地元の日本食材店などで「日本米」が手に入ります。これは日本米の種をスペインやアメリカなどへ持って行き、その土地で育てた米です。こういった日本米は、地元のスーパーなどで売っているアメリカングレイン米などに比べると断然美味しいのですが、それでも日本で手に入るお米と比べるとその味はどうしても落ちていることに気が付きました。以前旅先で落ち合った際に、叔母が5kgにも及ぶ日本米を「密輸」してくれたのです（笑）。このお米を炊いて食べた際、Byronはその美味しさに驚き、「美味しい！」を連発してお米だけを何度もお変わりして食べていました。ほんのり甘くそしてふっくらしたお米、ほんと～に美味しいんですよ。
By the way, I usually buy Japanese rice in the U.K. which are actually produced in USA or Spain after the seed are brought over from Japan. These rice are much much tastier than other kind of rice ie) long grain rice we can get at a local super market. But nothing can compare with a proper Japanese rice. Last year when we met my mother and my aunt in Hungary, my aunt ‘smuggled’ 5kg of Japanese rice for us (lol). When I prepared the rice at home, Byron was so amazed how tasty it was and kept saying ‘Delicious!’ and was eating only rice over and over. A bit of sweetened and softened rice are indeed perfect rice.
