Roman Holiday 1
とある日、母親からこんなメールを受け取りました。「今月末イタリアに行ってくるから、メールの返信が遅れても驚かないでね～。」。ちょっとちょっと、せっかくヨーロッパに来るんであればどこかで落ち合いませんか？私はローマに以前行ったことがあるけれど、素敵な町なのでバイロンを連れて行ってあげたいと思っていました。ということで、急遽ホリデーを取って飛行機とホテルを申し込みました。
One day, I received email from my mam saying ‘I’m going to Italy with my sister at the end of this month, so any emails will be replied afterwords.’… Hey hey, if you are comming to Europe, we can meet up, can’t we!? Also I wanted to show Roma to Byron as he hasn’t been there before. So I immediately took one day off and booked airplane tickets and a hotel room.
日曜の早朝5時、ガトウィック空港へ向けて出発、朝11時にローマに到着し、その足でコロッセオに向かいました。（数日間という短い滞在なので時間との戦いです。ちなみに母たちはツアーに参加中なので、当分は二人だけの観光です。）コロッセオはローマ帝政期に造られた円形闘技場で、その昔500,000人の剣闘士がここで闘い命を落とし、また100万匹以上の動物たちがここで殺されたそうです。
On Sunday we woke up at 5am and headed off to Gatwick airport, arrived in Roma at 11am, straight went to Colosseum. (We had only a few days in Roma so had to hurry..). Colosseum is an elliptical amphitheatre in the center of the city of Rome. It says about 500,000 people and over a million wild animals died in the Colosseum games.
その後はバスで移動です。これがまた難しく何度も間違えたバスに乗ってしまいましたが、やっとのことで夕方には、ローマ市内にある面積約0.44km²と世界最小の主権国家、ヴァチカンに到着しました。この敷地内にはカトリック教会の総本山であるサンピエトロ大聖堂、サンピエトロ広場、美術館などがあります。
Then even though we took a wrong bus quite a few times, we manated to get Vatican city in the late afternoon. It is situated in Rome and the smallest state in the world by both population and area. There are San Pietro church – one of the holiest sites in the Catholic Tradition -, St. Peter’s Square, Museum etc.
夕食後は「ローマの休日」のアン皇女の足取りをたどり、トレビの泉とスペイン階段を訪れました。ローマは非常に小さな町なのでどこへでも徒歩で移動が可能です。スペイン階段のすぐ横に、バイロンのお店発見！
In the evening after having nice Italian dinner we went for a walk to see Trevi fountain and The Spanish step to follow princess Ann’s foot step in the movie ‘Roman Holiday’. Roma is a quite small city allowing us to get all the famous spots on foot. Just next to The Spanish step, we found a Byron’s shop!
たくさん歩きました。明日に備えて就寝です。
We walked a LOT. We need a good night sleep…
