Midwife 5 – 38 weeks checkup
現在38週6日目です。出産予定日まで1週間足らずとなりました。母親学級で会った人たちは次々と出産を迎えており、残りは私を含めてあと数名となっています。出産後赤ちゃんを連れてみんなと会うのが楽しみです。
I am currently 36w6d pregnant. Only 1 week to go till due date. Most of people whom I met at antenatal class have already gave birth. I am looking forward to seeing them again with our babies.
産休に入って油断したのか連日の寒波のせいか、風邪が悪化してしまい1週間ほど寝込んでいました。お陰で参加する予定だったバイロンの会社のクリスマスパーティーもキャンセル、親戚宅に招待されていたクリスマスディナーもキャンセル、これまでの睡眠不足を取り戻すかのような勢いでひたすらベッドルームに篭っていました。高熱は出ていなかったのですが、喉の痛みと共にかなり咳き込んでいたので、この強い咳が陣痛か破水を引き起こすのではないかとヒヤヒヤ！バイロンは仕事を休んだり早退したりして必死に介護をしてくれましたが、その看病もむなしく安静に寝ていても日に日に悪化するため、これ以上ひどくなる前にと思いクリスマス前にGPに診察してもらいました。結果は風邪に加えて恒例の扁桃腺炎で、妊婦にも安心というペニシリン系の抗生物質を処方されました。本来であれば薬は服用したくなかったのですが、悪化していく喉の痛みと咳の症状に半パニック状態で、これ以上他のウィルスをキャッチしてしまう前に治さなければ！と思い、反対するバイロンを説得して薬をあっさり服用。ここへきて薬に頼るとは、なんとも負けた気分！赤ちゃんのことより自分の体を優先に考えてしまったようで、既に母親失格の称号を与えられた気分です。とは言え、とても弱い薬だったようで、しかも服用日数も通常より短かったため、今でもまだ完治していません。出産までには治るといいのですが・・・・。そして出産後落ち着いたら扁桃腺摘出手術！この扁桃腺とはもうおさらばしたい！
Because of being a bit careless after going on to maternity leave or freezing weather, I was ill in bed for over 1 week. I could not join Byron’s company’s xmas party, could not do any xmas shopping, and could not go to our relative’s house for a xmas dinner. All I was doing was just sleep! I didn’t get high fever but had bad sore throat and chesty cough, which could cause a contraction or water breaking…. so I was really really nervous! Byron was taking days off to look after me but my condition was getting worse and worse day by day, so I finally went to GP before Xmas day. It was bad cold as well as tonsillists (as usual!!!). Although I didn’t want to take any medicines neither did Byron, I ended up taking antibiotics as I was half panic with the pain of my throat and cough conditions which might bring some more viruses. What a looser I am! I feel like as if I was given a title of ‘bad mother’… However the medicine seemed very weak and the lenght of taking them was shorter, so I am still having the symptoms. I do hope they will go away by birth… And after the birth I would love to take this horrible tonsils out!
そしてボクシングデーの26日早朝（38w3d）、生理痛のような痛みで目が覚めました。あれ！？この痛みはなんだろう！？？と寝ぼけながらに思いつつ、もしや・・・・もしや・・・・とヒヤヒヤ。痛みの時間を計ると、連続で20分程続いていました。本陣痛ではなく、前駆陣痛というものかなと思います。かなり痛かった！痛み止めくれ～！と言いそうになったくらいです。そしてこの不定期な痛みは日に何回かあり、27日の早朝も同じような痛みで目が覚めました。今現在も時々痛みを感じます。
It was the early morning on the boxing day (I was 38w3d), strong stomach pain which was similar to period pain woke me up. What the hell is this??? I was half asleep but was nervous too. As it was really painful I wanted to take a pain killer. The pain lasted over 20 minutes so it was ‘fake’ contraction called Braxton hicks contractions, I assume. It happened several times on the day, and I woke up with similar pain on 27th too. The pain occurs a few times a day still now on.
出産は今のところ水中出産を考えているのですが、喉の痛みと咳に耐え切れずあっさり薬を服用したことと、生理痛のちょっと強いくらいの痛みで痛み止めが欲しいと思ったことを考えると、病院に到着した途端「無痛にして～！」と叫んでいる自分が簡単に想像出来てしまいました（笑）。だって痛いのいやよ～。
I am thinking to do a waterbirth, but considering of these insidents – took antibiotics due to sore throat and bad cough and thought of taking a pain killer with stomach ache, I can easily see myself shouting in the hospital ‘PLEASE GIVE ME AN EPIDURAL RIGHT NOW!!!’. Hahaha… I hate pain!!!
さて、今日は出産前の最後になるであろう検診のためにミッドワイフに会って来ました。赤ちゃんの頭も骨盤にうまくはまっているようで、全て順調なのでアクティブバースが可能とのこと。Kingston Hospitalには二種類の施設があり、無痛を希望している場合や帝王切開の場合は「Delivery Suite」、無痛注射を希望しない場合や水中出産を望む場合は「Malden Suite」というところに連絡をします。この二つの施設は同じビル内の同じ階にあるのでいつでも変更は可能です。もし本当に水中出産でいくぞ！と覚悟を決めた場合は、プールの確保などが必要になるので陣痛が始まったら早めに連絡をした方がよいそうです。さて、私は一体どちらを選ぶのやら・・・・。
Today I had a possibly last appointment with my midwife before the birth. A baby’s head seems nicely stuck in my pelvic and everything seems fine for an active birth. There are two type of labour suites in Kingston Hospital – one is called ‘Delivery Suites’ for women who need medical help such as epidural and cessarian section, and the other one is called ‘Malden Suite’ for women who know they will need little or no medical help in their labour. They are both on the same floor so it is easily possible to change your birth plan on the occation. If you are sure to go ahead with a water birth it seems better phone the suite as early as possible in order to book an birthing pool. Well well well….. not sure which one I will end up choosing…….
