Rugby World Cup 2007 in France!
ラグビーは南アフリカでは国民的スポーツの一つです。日本の野球に該当するのかな、と思います。そのため、ラグビーワールドカップがヨーロッパで開催されるとなると、行かないわけにはいきません。取ったチケットはフランスのState de Franceで開催される南アフリカvsイングランド。ちなみにチケットはオークションで買いました。出発前夜、バイロンは仕事のため24時間働き詰めで一睡もしていませんでした。朝7時半に帰宅し30分ほど仮眠を取り、ユーロスター発着駅のWaterloo駅へ向かって出発です。
Rugby is one of the most popular sports in South Africa. Probarbly baseball for Japanese. So there was no second thought to get tickets for Rugby World Cup in France. The tickets were for South Africa vs England in State de France! We bought them on Ebay. The day we were scheduled to go to paris, Byron did not get any sleep working for 24hours due to some issues at work. He came back home at 7am, slept 30min, then we were off to Waterloo station to catch a Eurostar. This was tough for him…
パリは南アフリカのラグビージャージを着た人で溢れ返っていました。
シャンゼリゼを歩いていると、カフェにいた巨大なオジサンに微笑みかけられました。誰？と聞くと、その偉大さに気づいたバイロンは「僕のヒーローだ！」と動揺し始めました。その方はFrancois Pienaarと言い、1995年に南アフリカが優勝した際のキャプテンだったそうです。どさくさに紛れ、一緒に写真を撮ってもらいました。あの胸の筋肉が忘れられません（笑）。あまりにも動揺していたバイロンはただ握手しただけでした。一緒に写真を撮ってもらえばよかったね・・・。
But on the day of the game, we were soooo excited to see a lot of South African in Paris, especially Byron’s hero Francois Pienaar – A captain of SA team when they won the world cup in 1995. He was having lunch at cafe and smiled at us as we walked pass. I didn’t know who that big man was, though, took photo with him 
He was massive indeed and his chest mascle was unforgettable (lol). Lucky me! Although Byron should have been taken photo with him….
スタジアムに到着するなり、フェイスペインティングをしてもらいました。片方のほっぺに日本の日の丸、もう片方には南アフリカの国旗を描いてもらいました。なかなかいいでしょ？
One of the thing I was realy really looking forward to was to get a face painting. As soon as we got the stadium I ran into the tent and asked to paint a Japanese flag and a South African on on my cheeks. Cool, hey?
スタジアムは80%がイギリス人で埋め尽くされていました。特にイギリスの国歌三唱の際はサポーターの声がスタジアム中に轟き、迫力で負けている・・と感じました。それに負けじと、南アのキッカー、Percyが活躍するたびに「Percy！Percy！」と叫びつつけました。おかげで喉がカラカラです。
Finally we were in a huge stadium! Nealy 80% was English supporter, I suppose. I was scared when English anthem was sang by huge amount of people. It was roud and as if I felt a rumbling of the ground which gave me a goose pimples. So..I shouted a lot to try to get rid of all the English noise. ‘Percy!!!! Percy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’…. Eventually I lost my voice….
80分はあっという間に過ぎました。南アフリカは36対０で見事圧勝です！1点も取れないというのはかなりの屈辱のようで、試合が終わらないうちにイギリス人サポーターは次々とスタジアムを後にしていました。でもサッカーのフーリガンと違い、負けは負けと認め、試合後は一緒にPubでビールを飲んでお祝いです。
80min was very quick. Yes we won! 36-0. Hooorayyyy! It must have been disappointed game for English supporters, but we all celebrated it together. It was truely exciting and enjoyable moment.
ラグビーの試合はあまり見たことがありませんでしたが、バイロンと知り合ってからは大ファンになり、次の試合が待ち遠しくてなりません。（ちなみに日本もワールドカップに出場していました。コホン。日本はこれでもアジアナンバーワンですよ。）
I was not a big fun of Rugby before I met Byron, but now I cannot wait the next game! Go go bokke! (Japan was also in the World cup, by the way, cough cough. We are asian number one! …
