2週間の長期休暇を利用して南アフリカへ行ってきましたが、その前に世界遺産として有名なヴィクトリアの滝へ立ち寄りました。滝はザンベジ川中流に位置し、ジンバブエとザンビアの国境をまたいで流れています。ザンベジ川はアフリカ大陸で4番目に長い川として知られています。アンゴリア、ナミビア、ボツワナ、ザンビア、ジンバブエ、モザンビークを通り、インド洋に注いでいます。
2 weeks holiday began. We went to Victoria Falls in Zambia on the way to South Africa. It is a World Heritage Site situated on the Zambezi river between Zimbabuwe and Zambia, and know as one of the biggest falls in the world. Zambezi river itself is the fourth-longest river in Africa. Its source in Zambia and flows through Angola, along the borders of Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, to Mozambique, where it empties into the Indian Ocean.

宿泊したホテルは滝から徒歩1分という距離だったのですが、乾季だったため全く水がないという状態。勝手に「ヴィクトリア崖」と名づけました（笑）。
The hotel we stayed was just 1 minutes away from the falls, but!!! as it was very very dry season, there were no water whatsoever! We renamed it ‘Victoria Cliffs’.

ジンバブエ側に行くと水量が多いという噂を聞き、国境を越えるのに少々苦労したものの、思い切って行ってみました。滝そのものは小さかったものの、水の勢いはものすごく強かったです。
Some people recommend us to go to Zimbabwe side where they saw the falls, so with great difficulities we managed to cross the border while saving a few dollars with the help of a local Zambia resident. As you can see, the falls were small but were still amazing at the same time!

ザンビア側に「悪魔のスイミングプール」と呼ばれるところがあります。これは崖っぷちに小さく出来たプールのことを指していて、滝を見下ろすことも出来るようです。次回は是非とも挑戦してみたいものです。
We saw a few tourists swimming in the little rock pools near the edge of the falls, knows as Devil’s swimming pool. They also were able to look over the edge down the falls. Next time…
