イースターホリデーがやってきました。特に旅行の予定はなかったのですが、とある1日、家にいてもつまらないのでどこかへ行かなければ！という気持ちにさせられるほどのいいお天気でした。そこで、急遽行き先を決めて出発。世界遺産に指定されているストーンヘンジです。私は過去に2回ほど行ったことがあるのですが、バイロンはまだこの偉大な石を見たことがないというので、いざ出発です。
Easter holiday has come. The weather is perfect! We HAVE TO go somewhere!! The destination is Stonehenge – World Heritage Site. I have been there twice so far, but Byron hasn’t and he needed to see the outstanding STONES.

バイロンは、「観光客集めのために1990年代か何かに石をかき集めたに違いない」なんて言っていました。そんな夢のないこと言ってないで、とにかく無料で借りられるオーディオガイドを聞きながらストーンヘンジの周りを一周しましょう。

ストーンヘンジは、太陽崇拝の祭祀場、古代の天文台、ケルト民族のドルイド教徒の礼拝堂など、様々な憶測はあるようですが、実は何のために作られたものなのか分かっていません。この巨大な石をどこからどのように運んだのかも、その真意は明確になっていません。ただ、夏至の朝には太陽はヒールストーン（右写真）の付近から昇り、太陽の最初の光線は馬蹄形の配置の中にある遺跡の中央に直接当たることなどから、恐らく天文学と何らかの関係があるのではないかという説が主流です。この日の出を見ようと、夏至の前夜から人々が集まってくるのは有名です。
Stonehenge seems to have various guesses such as service temples 7 of the Druid believer of a festa place of sun worship and ancient astronomical observatory and Kelt race, but no one knows the truth of this magnificent stones. How they carried such huge stones and from where are also not clear. However, because the sun rises from the vicinity of the heel stone (right photograph) on the morning of the summer solstice, it is believed to have some sort of relation with astronomy. It is famous that people gather from the previous night of the summer solstice to see this sun rise moment.

ストーンヘンジの先にあるExceterという場所に人気のキャンプサイトがあるため、行きはかなりの渋滞に巻き込まれて3時間もかかってしまいましたが、帰りはスイスイ、1時間で自宅に着きました。途中、菜の花畑を発見し、その美しさに思わず車を停めて写真撮影です◎
It took nearly 3 hours on the wey to stonehenge due to heavy traffic heading to Exceter where must be lots of camping sites. However, on the way back home it took just 1 hour! We relaxed much more with smooth driving, lucky enough to be able to pull off a car to see beautiful rapeseed field!
